Last Xmas, for the first time in the 6 or so years I’ve been one, the life of the solopreneur sucked. I know this’ll sound a bit pathetic, but as ‘everyone else’ got into the festive spirit with office parties and lunches, I was feeling really isolated and lonely – and all because I didn’t have a group of colleagues to party with. The sense of left-outed-ness was so strong, that, for a moment there, I actually considered joining the ranks of the employed! Once I got over that (took all of about 10 minutes) and having left it too late to do anything about it that year, I decided that Christmas 2010 would be a different kettle of turkey. And so it is that I find myself piggy-backing a regular coworking session of freelancers, so(u)lopreneurs and work-at-homers at Bar Gwdihŵ and organizing the not entirely creatively name Cardiff So(u)lopreneurs Christmas Lunch Thing. So, here’s the deal…
It’s happening at 1.30pm on Friday December 17th 2010 at Gwdihŵ (map)
It’s not your usual Christmas fayre – this is a BBQ/buffet style affair with food served in the covered and heated beer garden. Vegetarians are deliciously well catered for. And call me childish, but we’re doing a Secret Santa too – with a twist…
Twisted Secret Santa Rules: I’m not big into rules, and you’re a free agent, so compliance is up to you. It would be nice though… goodwill and all that… 
- Your Secret Santa gift budget is £3.50 tops! (Including wrapping.)
- Your gift should come from a Charity Shop, Local Craft Fair or be hand- or home-made.
- If you don’t like the gift you receive, it goes back to a Charity Shop or gets eBayed for chariddy etc.

Cost: £14.00 PRE-BOOKING absolutely ESSENTIALThis price includes: £12.50 for welcome drink and 3 courses plus service and PayPal transaction fee… you see, to secure the booking, I need to front a 50% deposit on a minimum booking of 10. So I have to take payment upfront – and the easiest way to do that is via PayPal… who charge a handling fee… hence £14 to cover that and saying thank you to the lovely Gwdihŵ team.

What an utterly awesome idea! Having just joined the ranks of the so(u)lopreneur this year, I was admittedly starting to feel a slight pang at the gap in my diary, that should be home to a good, co-worker knees-up.

I just looked for the PayPal button and found the owl!!!
LOL! Ah… I see… right, well in that case, I shall add a little pic up top and also refer to Mr Owl as a vase-like thing!
